With their first release dropped on April 24th, Slug Wife candidate theirselves as the best surprise of 2017. This newly set up label is all but a rookie, judging from the sound that we heard. The first release, operated by Kursa & Seppa, is a triple concentrate of fat bass and halfstep that gave me goosebumps like a lot. “Gangsta slugs from space, shottin’ salt since day.”, this is how they define theirselves, and we couldn’t agree more. I tried quite hard to find a good sentence to describe the vibe, and when I realized I couldn’t find it I went to their facebook “about” section of the page. There it is! This marvellous definition. How it sounds like?
I must say that I was pretty surprised to listen to this release. The style is definitely not the usual one you hear, the speed is slow, fucking slow, and that is fucking great! As the label motto says, At SLUG WIFE it’s all about the music that makes your head bob and your feet move. Pretty darn made it, boys! I literally couldn’t stop doing a slow version of the headbang on my sofa and feeling like a gangsta. a Slug gangsta. From now on, you have a fan in me. Regarding the two artists that made up the release, Kursa & Seppa, they have a history in bass music, and they’re not new to the slow version of it. Moreover, the label is theirs.
This british connection has formed the best sounding slow bass music that I could imagine, and got me completely in love with their sound. The slug is the perfect metaphor for this sound, slow, sticky and a little bit sick. I can do nothing but command you to spend 10 minutes of your time checking this out because they really deserve it, with their original sound and their mindafuck attitude, which is always a good thing in music.
