Yes, you got it right, he’s doing something very interesting and we had the pleasure to hear it in advance. To be honest, he also teased it a bit in his facebook page, but when we had the chance to hear what he actually is producing, goosebumps! That is what I call Drum & Bass. As always, he’s able to keep the vibe going and the hype loading with just 3 sounds (4, tops), something that most of the producers out there can’t even dream to achieve. It takes a lot of talent to always find the right note, loop, stem and idea to play around with. And he makes it every time! Could it be all due to his meme-browsing chair?
The new material he’s working on is a triple concentrate of dark minimal drum and bass that will be thrown out in the market from Neosignal, Phace & Misanthrop’s label. What distinguish Neosignal every time is that they seek for the weirdest stuff. You’ll never hear a boring release from them, nor a merely commercial one. They always work as they are, but are not meant to sell big numbers. They’re meant to hit your curiosity and make you wanna hear more, discover more. Didn’t I just say that I love Neosignal once again, as I did here some time ago as well?
The new EP that Emperor is working on is called Shadow EP. It includes four songs, one of which is already available for streaming on soundcloud on the Insomniac Events page, where it was elected track of the day. For what concerns me, this new EP from my beloved producer from Manchester is pure gold. The songs are just great, simple, empty in a good way, they are extremely mixable with anything else and at the same time standalone, a feature that very few other producers have (one example: Neonlight). The linked song in particular (Calypso) has something that really got me: the lead. It grows and vibes in a very peculiar way that doesn’t get annoying but at the same time it does tickle your attention like a cat that wants food (and that is a little bit annoying, we’ve all been there). And you? What do you think of it? There’s nothing left to say, discover it yourself!
