The machines took over. They’ve been doing it in music for the last 20-30 years, but very few artists in Drum & Bass represent this more than the very one myth Skynet. For those who are not comfy with this term, just click here (link), for the others, well you might remember when you were young that there was this famous artist rocking the scene until 2004. Or, if you’re very young, your father or your older brother might have told you, or handed you over a couple of vinyls. Nathan Vinall has 46 years, and has been into electronic music since the end of the eighties, when Acid House was still a thing and free parties were the rule all over UK. His facebook Biography says clearly his position towards humans:
Activation commenced at Cyberdyne Systems: 1987.
Self Aware: 1997.
Destroys humanity: 2001 with Clockwork precision.
Shut down 2004.
Been silent for around 10 years between 2004 and 2014, very active before, and active again afterwards, Skynet came back in this 2017 with a new 2-songs release that has all the vibes of a true old school masterpiece. The two tracks, called Underground and Stuck in Mind are truly unforgettable and carry the gourmet taste of someone who’s been “doing this shit” for almost 30 years. The ethereal vocal track in Stuck in Mind is on another level, the basslines are fat and vibe-y, the drums are techy as fuck and it quite seems to be listening to some of the first releases of Ram Records. Speaking of which, this release has been carried out by Ram’s sublabel dedicated to underground and more experimental sounds ProgRam records.
Our feeling about this release is that it’s pure quality. Everything is in place and properly sound designed, but at the same time that is not the only thing: there is class, there is quality, there is room for experiments and there’s a lot of anti-conformism which this artist always made a brand of himself with. We strongly suggest you to invest some of your time in the next days to listen to this marvellous pair of songs that will uplift you more than a bag of Amnesia, believe us. Skynet has taken control.
