Hello guys, here we are again for another song of the week.
First of all, let’s introduce the artist: Riya. She’s a DJ and singer who’s debut album Sublimation will be released on the 10th of September 2015. However, she’s not a newbie in the drum and bass scene, because it’s been years since her first appearance on the decks. Her style is mainly liquid, but she likes going pop sometimes and giving the tracks a fresh, easy touch. If you search her name on YouTube, you can have an idea of what I’m talking about. I took the time to make the query for you:
Together with Riya, we find Hybrid Minds, an english trio (once a duo) rocking the dnb dancefloors under the shelter of AudioPorn records. Hybrid Minds and Riya are not at the first collaboration, in fact one can find other tracks from them on YouTube, but this one is really the best they did, in my opinion. The songs grows up slowly in the first 30 seconds, and the first voice appears at about a minute. Her voice is, no surprise, beautiful. But most, it fits very nicely the liquid drum and bass drums and piano, and this is not trivial because a lot of tracks in this musical scene are definitely not singed by characteristic singers. Usually, producers search a female voice to sing the 8 lines they wrote, but they don’t spend too much time searching the correct voice for their songs, they simply need one. She’s a step up in the stairway, in my opinion, giving the track a lead voice instead of simple vocals.
Another cool thing of this track is that it doesn’t properly “drop”, rather it flows. Let’s recollect why liquid drum & bass is called like that: there was once this radio program called Liquid Drum&Bass which was passing these water-like songs, flowing away like a river in summer, hence the name “liquid”. This song would have been the main hit for weeks, in that program.
Enough talking dudes, enjoy this beautiful track. And have a nice week!
