Metnem is a cool label. Dem dudes are those kind of serbians you don’t wanna mess with, those ones that do not know the word compromise. And this, ladies and gentlemen, is a very noble feature. I can personally vouch for this, I’ve seen Billain two times and after 30 minutes of set I was already thinking that he’s one of the best DJs I’ve ever seen. In the Balkans, the Drum & Bass scene is something big, so big that it can unite people from different areas into a single junglist family. It is in this context that artists like Billain, Codex and War came out. Today, we’re gonna present you the latest work from War, which is a two-songs EP that brings us back to the early 2000s. The two songs, named Lesser Evil (feat. Sk4nZ) and Bismuth respectively. Listening to the promo, I couldn’t think of anything else than what I used to listen when I first approached the Drum & Bass world. It was 2004 and I started listening to Noisia and other producers that represented my starter pack. Some of these producers used to have the same sound that found in this new EP from War, something like continuous drums, deep basslines, dreamy leads and the sensation of being inside an abandoned military airport at an illegal rave somewhere in Serbia.
War is no newbie, he has releases in very good labels such as MethLab, Dispatch Recordings, Metnem and many others. This time, he gifts us with this classy pair of songs that will easily be rocked in any DJ set. In my article from November 7 we introduced a new measurement unit which we called the Jake. For those who don’t know where the hell this comes from, Jake is J-Wok which is one of our artists and also one of the most awesome people I ever met. Thus, the perfect name for a measurement unit that describes awesomeness! In the same article from November 7 we also explained how we intend to use this 1 to 5 measurement unit: we don’t want to be easy with it. We want artists to deserve it, crave for it, thus we won’t give away a 5 that easy. For us, this release scores 3.5 / 5 Jakes, which means definitely awesome even if not remarkably awesome. To clarify our judgement, everything over 3 is good, the range from 3 to 5 is basically a matter of taste. Go check it out in Beatport by hitting https://www.beatport.com/ and searching “War”, it’s out today!
