Some demos are totally weird. You listen to them and you’re like -what the hell am I listening to- but can’t stop. That is the moment in which you realize you’re now old and have to update your knowledge on the music you listen, compose, and write about. This is electronic music, fellas, and the reason why I love it! One day you’re cutting edge, the other you’re in second row and have to reinvent yourself. This is what can be said for Fa11out, a bosnian duo of producers that has been noticed by DJ Vegas (Bad Company) and brought into the loop with this new release on Bad Taste Recordings called Black Bones that is one of the craziest examples of Neurofunk I heard in 2017.

The song is strange, drops in an unexpected way, and is fully loaded with industrial sounds that many neuro producers don’t even dare to utilize. Overall, the song is not an easy dancefloor track that does the job. As a matter of fact, I would place it into the pile of music made for listening, which is usually very different from the one made for dancing. Some key elements that evoke dancing are lacking, like a repetitive yet punching drum texture that merges with intense and pulsating basslines into a fast and continuous rhythm. On the contrary, in this one we have complex drums that make you feel like you’re having a bad trip, combined with industrial sounds and deep subby basses that are awesome to be heard on a proper sound system. Just like they were doing in this video.

I like crazy ideas. I love when producers aim high, and I totally support these experiments because this is how art renovates itself. It might not be the most catchy song ever heard, or the easiest to remember, but it is original in every sense. The mixdown could have been cleaner in some spots but this might also be just my personal taste. The sensation is to have entered the final level of a particularly violent first-person shooter videogame, this level is settled in an abandoned factory loaded with mutant monsters and you just have a little light and a gun. To quote the 11th Doctor: Basically, RUN! And don’t forget to buy it here.
